Peru is more noted for its agriculture than the Adirondacks. Huge apple orchards that border the Northway supply New York with tasty apples. There are also a lot of dairy farms too. Though much of Ausable and Ausable Chasm have a Peru mailing address, technically they are not in the political boundaries of the town or village. But it has a pleasant village center with all the basic necessities, as well as the inevitiable world famous fast food joint near Exit 35, the first one since Exit 23.
